The images in this compilation were featured in the exhibition, Reminiscences of the Straits Settlements through Postcards, a first-ever collaboration between the National Archives of Malaysia and the National Archives of Singapore. More than 100 postcards take the reader back to life in Penang, Singapore and Malacca at the turn of the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. They document the numerous similarities in the political entity known as the Straits Settlement but better known today as independent Singapore and part pf the nation of Malaysia. Supporting archival records include maps, building plans and documents. These images are a fascinating record of a shared vanished lifestyle and a good reminder of the close historical links between the two nations.

Of Hearts & Minds II is a celebration of the people of Sembawang Shipyard and their contributions that span over 40 years. It is depicted from a human angle on existing and former staff, their lives, work and passion in and for the shipyard. This laborious effort involved more than 2,500 people over a period of 13 months. The book’s foreword was penned by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who congratulated “the workers, the union and the management for their determination to keep the shipyard internationally competitive and make Sembawang Shipyard a continuing success story.” The writer, Leong Ching, is a former newspaper and television reporter and has graduate degrees in philosophy, information technology and journalism. The book had two photographers, Gerald Gay, a recipient of international advertising jury awards including that of the British Design and Art Direction; and Kris LeBoutillier, a travel photographer who has worked for countless magazine and newspaper clients from National Geographic Traveler to the Financial Times.
